DESIGN YOUR RESEARCH WELL

There are three levels of any research study for you to consider:

  • Catalysts: Internal and external strategic and tactical issues that prompt the need for the research.
  • Process: Identifying the optimal methodology to achieve desired results you can be confident in for minimal resources.
  • Tangible Results: Measurable internal and external impact the research is expected to have.

Your research may require qualitative research and/or quantitative research components, with input from management, employees and/or external customers.

Design the process of each research study to give the results you can count on, with statistical validity where needed. Research Design Explained by Mark Mitchell and Janina Jolley provides an excellent overview. We were pleased many years ago to provide the authors with a simple chart derived from our software to show the sample size needed for a given confidence level and sampling error.
